Carbon structural quality steel 08 ps is highly available and easy to manufacture, which makes it in demand among alloys for mass use. The low carbon content provides the metal with softness and ductility, which favorably affects the weldability, forging and cutting of the material. Steel 08 ps can be processed by pressure, which makes it possible to produce cold rolled products.

Characteristics and purpose of steel 08 ps

Steel 08 ps is a carbon structural high-quality semi-quiet steel. The main purpose of structural steels is the production of structures, parts and mechanisms. Carbon, means - with a minimum content of additives, unalloyed. Carbon steels are used in mass products used under normal conditions. Qualitative, means that the composition of the alloy contains no more than 0.035% of phosphorus and sulfur. Semi-calm - this is the degree of deoxidation, such steels have a medium-porous structure and a moderate amount of impurities.

The low carbon content indicates the softness of steel - the predominance of the qualities of ductility and toughness over hardness. Of steels of this type, products for responsible purposes that operate at high loads are not produced.

The absence of a significant concentration of alloying additives indicates the impossibility of using steel 08ps in direct contact with water and aggressive solutions of acids and alkalis. If such contacts are necessary, the metal surface is covered with a protective galvanic or paint coating. The purpose of such steels is fastening mechanisms, unloaded building products and structures, small parts, pipes.

Steel 08 ps is strong, not prone to temper brittleness, welded without restrictions and heat treatment.

Rockwell hardness - 10-1=131 MPa. It is measured by the depth of penetration into the metal of the diamond cone.
Brinell hardness - 196 MPa. It is measured by pressing a steel ball into the metal.
The density of the material is in the range from 7846 to 7602 kg/m3, which is typical for carbon steel in general.
Tensile strength - in the range of 270-412 MPa.
The yield strength is 196 MPa at a temperature of 20C.

Machining and preparation of steel 08 PS

Steel 08 ps is subjected to cleaning, cutting and bending. Cleaning is carried out on machine tools, or manually - using metal brushes. For cutting, manual press scissors are used, and at enterprises, machines are used that can cut several sheets at once. Bending is necessary for the manufacture of some parts, it can be done on machine tools, manual or home-made equipment.
